System Description
(Required) Choose which Atlases to include in the search.

Greenfield: Two dry-gully reservoirs on undeveloped land.

Bluefield: Repurposes an existing lake or reservoir.

Brownfield: Repurposes a mining pit, pit lake or tailings pond.

Ocean: Uses the ocean as the lower reservoir.

Seasonal: 5000GWh reservoir connected to a very large river for seasonal storage.

Turkey's Nest: Uses ring dam built on flat land or around natural depression.
(Required) Choose the pumped hydro sizes to include in the search.

Energy capacity [GWh]: Total energy that could be discharged from the upper reservoir when full.

Storage duration [h]: Total time that the system could discharge at rated power capacity when upper reservoir starts at full supply level.

Power capacity [GW]: Maximum power that the system can deliver. Can be calculated from Energy capacity / Storage duration
(Required) Choose the cost classes to include in the search.

Description: The cost class is based upon a cost model developed by an engineering firm for the ANU. Cost class A is the baseline. Cost class E is roughly twice the cost of the baseline. Premium cost classes AAA and AA are 33% and 66% of the baseline respectively.

Premium cost classes: Cost classes AAA and AA are expected to have a cost of civil works ($/kW and $/kWh) substantially lower than existing on-river pumped hydro systems.
≤ Head (m) (Optional) Difference in altitude between the upper and lower reservoirs. Doubling the head will double the energy stored in the same volume of water, which roughly halves the $/kWh cost of the reservoirs ≤
≤ Head-to-distance ratio (Optional) Ratio of the head to the separation distance, equivalent to average slope between the reservoirs. A larger slope generally indicates cheaper civil works. ≤
≤ Water-to-rock ratio (Optional) Ratio of water volume to dam wall volume. High water-to-rock ratio indicates that very small dam walls are required to impound a large amount of water. ≤
≤ Separation distance (km) (Optional) Separation distance between the upper and lower reservoir. A smaller separation distance will require a shorter, cheaper pressure tunnel. ≤
≤ Usable volume (GL) (Optional) Usable volume of water within the system (the volume between minimum operating level and full supply level). ≤
≤ Combined reservoir area (Ha) (Optional) Total land flooded by the upper and lower reservoirs. ≤
≤ Combined dam volume (GL) (Optional) Total volume of rock required to impound the upper and lower reservoirs. ≤
